2020 National Parks Week and Parkscriptions Day 

Parkscriptions day hosted by Recreation Northwest, on Sunday, April 26th is an annual celebration of the Parkscriptions program serving Whatcom County- connecting people with positive outdoor experiences for healthier lifestyles and improved mental and physical health. The week aligns with National Parks Week (April 18-26), National Parks RX day (April 26th) and Earth Day (April 22nd).

The week of events will offer a variety of programs to inspire and educate the public. Participate in any of these FREE activities, open to the public. Details below. Go outside and get your dose of nature!

Events & Locations:

Saturday, April 18th
Volunteer Work Party, CITY OF BELLINGHAM, PARKS AND RECREATION
Whatcom Park Finder: Maritime Heritage Park
Gloves, tools, and instruction provided. Please wear long pants, close-toed shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Don’t forget your water and a snack. All ages welcome, no experience necessary.  Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to bring a completed Liability form to the event. Volunteers under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The activity is FREE of charge.
Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Wednesday, April 22nd (Earth Day)
Stepping Out, CITY OF BELLINGHAM, PARKS AND RECREATION
Meet new friends, learn new trails, stay fit and have fun! Each week we will meet at a designated park location and explore a nearby trail, Greenways path or Bellingham park. Walks will gradually get longer (maximum 3 miles) and possibly gain a small amount of elevation by program’s end. Bring your walking shoes, water bottle and walking sticks (optional) and fill your weekly “Parkscription”!
Time: 9:00 am – 10:00 am

Wednesday, April 22nd (Earth Day)
Beach Cleanup, RE SOURCES and SURFRIDER FOUNDATION
Whatcom Park Finder: Locust Beach
All ages welcome. Cleanup supplies and light snacks provided.

Saturday, April 25th
NW Tulip Trekkers, BELLINGHAM SENIOR CENTER and NW TUILIP TREKKERS
Location: Bellingham Senior Center
Come join the NW Tulip Trekkers for a one day traditional event in Bellingham, WA. NW Tulip Trekkers and Bellingham Senior Center, invite you to join us in our walk around Bellingham City, Bay, Whatcom Creek and Farmer’s Market. Please also take time to enjoy some of our many other 21 walks around this beautiful part of the world in which we live! Guided 11 km walk
Time: 10:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Walk with a Doc– with local providers that use this program in their practice

A Walk in the Park– featuring local subject matter experts on the park and amenities

Forest Bathing– is the healing way of simply being in the forest 

Mountain Biking– Shifting Gears will provide a mountain biking event to inspire

A Walk with a Ranger Take a walking tour with a Washington State Park Ranger. Open for all ages. 

Sunset Tidepool Walk with a Ranger, Larrabee State Park
