In partnership with Bellingham Parks Volunteers program, we’re throwing a party in the park.
Join us on Monday, January 18th, for our MLK Day of Service Community for a Work Party in Fairhaven Park!
The party will be working with our Park Stewards the native plant gardens. Todd Elsworth and Jim Fonte will be leading the work parties of 5 volunteers per team in this reclaimed natural area. This work will help support the trail mitigation sites, creating healthy urban green spaces for all to access and enjoy.
This is our first work party of the year. We will be working on two main tasks- divided into two groups for each to tackle.
#1 – Invasive species removal
We have bad blackberry sprouts coming up in our boardwalk mitigation site.
#2 – Native Plant transplanting
Our plants would like some more company. We are going to be transplanting ferns and snowberry into the native plant garden.
Pre-registration is required. Sign up with Bellingham Parks Volunteers program. We limited space. If you sign up, please show up. Or let Todd Elsworth know via txt @ 360.739.8458.

Todd Elsworth is one of the many “Mossy-haired lunatics roaming the dripping peninsulas”, described in “I’m Here for the Weather” by Tom Robbins. As executive director, he works to fulfill our mission to teach the health benefits of nature, promote outdoor recreation, and steward the places where we play.
