Fairhaven Park Mitigation Planting sites

We are proud of the work that we accomplished in 2017, installing the new trail and wetland boardwalk. With our commitment to this project, we are responsible for the maintenance of our 4 mitigation areas. Listed below are the areas and the plants that we will be caring for in the years to come. 

Wetland Trail Abandonment 2,675 SF – 78 plants (200 sedges)
20 Red-osier dogwood
17 Black twinberry
5 Western red cedar
10 Red alder
20 Salmonberry
1 Vine maple
5 Indian plum
200 Slough sedge

Buffer Trail Abandonment 2,125 SF – 56 plants
8 Western red cedar
1 Red alder
10 Indian plum
11 Snowberry
9 Vine maple
2 Hazelnut
5 Red elderberry
10 Sword fern

Meadow Wetland  3,253 SF – 78 plants
15 Black twinberry
20 Red-osier dogwood
2 Sitka willow
5 Hooker willow
10 Sitka spruce
5 Pacific willow
20 Pacific ninebark
1 Douglas spirea

Meadow Buffer 3,277.5 SF – 74 plants
5 Douglas fir

11,330.5 Square Feet of mitigation area
286 plants ( + 200 slough sedges)
1,640 feet of fencing

Todd Elsworth

Todd Elsworth is one of the many “Mossy-haired lunatics roaming the dripping peninsulas”, described in “I’m Here for the Weather” by Tom Robbins. As executive director, he works to fulfill our mission to teach the health benefits of nature, promote outdoor recreation, and steward the places where we play.
