Recreation Economy round-up – June 2017

June 22, 2017 by April Claxton Leave a Comment

Here’s a re-cap of some of the noteworthy recreation economy stories from the past month.

Outdoor gear companies take on Trump
Companies that make and sell outdoor gear, such as Patagonia, REI and The North Face, are forcefully criticizing Trump for trying to roll back former President Obama’s actions on protecting public land and fighting climate change.

National monuments are a positive economic force for rural communities
The outdoor industry supports protecting our nation’s public lands, not just because the American landscape and its rugged, natural beauty sets our nation apart from the rest of the world, but also because America’s public lands are the very foundation, the infrastructure, of the massive outdoor recreation economy.

The Trailblazing Packable Tool
Bill Hasenjaeger made the first version of the Trail Boss in 2009 for his own use. He now works nearly full-time on the company, which became profitable in 2013.
