FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro to be Recognized at National Philanthropy Day Ceremony

Bellingham business will receive

2014 Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business Award

BELLINGHAM, Wash., July 23, 2014—Recreation Northwest is pleased to announce that Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro has been named the 2014 Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business for Washington State. Owner Ed Bennett and General Manager Janet Lightner will be honored for their acts of generosity at the 26th Annual National Philanthropy Day Award Ceremony, taking place November 5, 2014 at the Westin Seattle hotel.

Each year, the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Washington Chapter receives nominations to honor philanthropic leaders from communities throughout the state. Boundary Bay Brewery was chosen as an outstanding example of how the business and non-profit sectors can work together to address community needs, take better care of the environment and sustain one another.

In nominating Boundary Bay Brewery for the award, Recreation Northwest Executive Director Todd Elsworth said, “Since our signature multi-sport race, the Bellingham Traverse, began in 2002, Ed and Janet have worked closely with me to host an event that promotes our shared ideals of building community. We are grateful for the support they’ve given our organization, as well as so many others in Whatcom County, and we felt they were well-deserving of this honor.”

Boundary Bay Brewery has supported a long list of organizations throughout their 19 years in business. Recreation Northwest reached out to the Bellingham non-profit community to solicit support for the Philanthropy Day Award nomination, and received stories of Boundary Bay’s generosity from a wide variety of organizations. Co-nominating organizations include:

Kulshan Community Land Trust
