Recreation Northwest

Thank you for your support of Recreation Northwest and our efforts to promote outdoor recreation and bring people together to enjoy, preserve and improve the places where we play.

We are currently focusing our fundraising efforts on two programs:

If you would like to direct your donation to one program in particular, please feel free to note that in the comments of the donation form.

Recreation Northwest became Park Stewards for Fairhaven Park in 2014. We chose this particular park due to the impact we have with the trail run leg of our Bellingham Traverse. We were quickly propelled into taking on a long-term project for the health of the forest and the benefit of our community.

Working in partnership with city staff and our community, we have chosen to focus on trail relocation projects- working towards connecting the park with the Chuckanut Community Forest. We completed Phase I in 2015 and will be completing Phase II in 2017– with your help.

The construction of Fairhaven Trail Phase II will be a new section of pedestrian/bike trail and boardwalk across a wetland.  As part of this project, we will also be restoring the existing trail through the wetland with native plantings.

We are proud to be working to relocate unsanctioned trails through fragile wetlands in this special urban forest. The new trails will connect the popular park and forest. The trails will be built to city specifications allowing increased and enjoyable access for people as well as protecting this important habitat for wildlife and the ecology of the forest.

Crossing the wetland with a Boardwalk means increased expenses over Phase I with a total cost of $121,000. We have already raised $112,000 and hope you will join us in raising the final $9,000 needed to begin construction.

Donors of $1,000 and greater will be recognized at the gateway to the new trail.
