FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Inaugural Kulshan Quest Adventure Race Features National Competitors

Registration now open for June 21 six- and 12-hour races in Bellingham, WA.

BELLINGHAM, Wash., June 3, 2014—Recreation Northwest announces the inaugural Kulshan Quest Adventure Race will be held June 21, 2014 in Bellingham, WA. Among the competitors will be the winners of the 2013 San Juan Quest, Dusty Caseria and Emily Morehouse, who will be competing in the U.S. Adventure Racing Association’s National Championships, held in Maryland in October. The Kulshan Quest will serve as NW regional qualifier for the 2014 nationals.

The Kulshan Quest was organized to introduce local outdoor enthusiasts to adventure races, which combine two or more endurance sports with map reading skills. Individuals and teams race from point to point, using one of several means of human-powered transport and a map. While some adventure races last for a week or more, the Kulshan Quest aims to be more accessible, with six- and 12-hour options.

Kulshan Brewing Company is the title sponsor of the 2014 Kulshan Quest Adventure Race, while Brent Molsberry will serve as race director. Moslberry has directed the San Juan Quest for six years.

“We are looking forward to doing the Kulshan Quest,” said Morehouse. “The technical terrain found in our local foothills will be an exciting challenge, and Brent’s previous events were very well-organized. The race and after-party will be a blast and we encourage all adventurers to give it a go!”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we find ourselves on some unfamiliar trails, roads, or beaches during the course of the race,” said Caseria. “With our great multi-use trail system and beautiful coastline, Bellingham is the perfect place for an adventure race. We hope to see many other adventure seekers come out for a great, challenging race in our beautiful Bellingham! ”

The Kulshan Quest course will be unknown to competitors until a half hour before the race begins in Fairhaven. It will include sea kayaking on the waters of Bellingham Bay, along with trail running and mountain biking in the forests of the Chuckanut Mountains. Participants may complete the series of checkpoints however they wish, but they must complete the race as a unit.

Early Kulshan Quest registration is now open here. Rates will increase on June 7, so adventurers are encouraged to sign up now.

Dusty Caseria (360-483-9357) and Emily Morehouse (541-660-9962) are available for media interviews.
