Recreation Northwest Kicks Off 2014 Northwest Traverse Series with
Sun Mountain Lodge Winthrop Traverse
Solo, tandem and relay teams will celebrate salmon life cycle through the
35.25-mile course on June 14, 2014.
BELLINGHAM, Wash., March 20, 2014—Recreation Northwest proudly announces Winthrop, Wash. as the newest venue and 2014 kickoff event in the Northwest Traverse Multi-Sport Series. The Sun Mountain Lodge Winthrop Traverse takes place Saturday, June 14, with a 35.35-mile multi-sport event starting at Pearrygin Lake State Park and finishing in downtown Winthrop.
Solo, tandem, relay and company teams are invited to participate. The 3-mile run, 8-mile mountain bike, 4-mile paddle, 20-mile road bike and .25-mile team trek course celebrates the life cycle of wild salmon with a symbolic tribute to their journey. Team members will challenge themselves and each another on this rugged course, which highlights the recreational bounty of Winthrop and the Methow Valley.

The Winthrop Traverse Title Spawnsor is Sun Mountain Lodge, recognized as one of the premier destination resorts in the Northwest. “We are excited about our Recreation Northwest partnership and hosting the Winthrop Traverse in our backyard,” said Brian Charlton, General Manager of Sun Mountain Lodge. “As the title sponsor and host hotel, we look forward to welcoming visitors to enjoy the wide array of recreational choices in the Methow, and supporting this effort to showcase the vital role of recreation in our community.”

The Winthrop Traverse will support the Methow Valley Sports Trails Association (MVSTA) through trail building efforts by inviting Traverse participants to participate in work parties throughout the year. Additional event partners include Pearrygin Lake State Park, City of Winthrop, Department of Fish and Wildlife, Okanogan County and Winthrop Chamber of Commerce.
The 2014 Northwest Traverse series continues in Olympia, Wash. on July 26; North Bend, Wash. on September 6; and Bellingham, Wash. on September 20.
