Recreation Northwest’s Basecamp Bellingham Launch into 2019

October 10, 2018 by Todd Elsworth Leave a Comment

Kicking off Recreation Northwest’s 2018-19 BASECAMP networking events, a solid representative group gathered together at Menace Brewing in Bellingham, WA. on Tuesday, October 9th. We came together to talk with friends and engage with strangers who share a common purpose. The thread that binds us together- the recreation industry.

Recreation Northwest is committed to advocating for the deserved recognition of the impact the outdoor recreation industry has- with regards to the economic, social and health benefits we as an industry provide.

Our work in this endeavor began with the publication of our Whatcom County Economic Impact Study in 2015, complementing the Washington Recreation and Conservation Office Study, also produced by Earth Economics. On a national level, these efforts are driven by the work that Outdoor Industry Association has produced.

Annually we host our Recreation Northwest Expo for the public and Washington Outdoor Recreation Summit as a conference for people working in the industry. Each year at the Summit we have the opportunity to hear from Jon Snyder, Governor Inslee’s Policy Advisory on Outdoor Recreation and Economic Development, speak about statewide issues. On a national level, these efforts are driven by the work that Outdoor Industry Association has produced and advocates on all our behalf.

Our Basecamp events are an opportunity for people to connect on a regular basis. In attendance at our first Basecamp of the season was a demonstration of the breath of the recreation industry- Manufacturers, Retailers, Tour Guides, Race Directors, Media, independent contractors and others interested in the outdoor recreation sector.

Here’s the who’s who in attendance at our October Basecamp:

With the people gathered, we were proud to announce the formalization of a new group that will encapsulate the work we have collectively accomplished and as we expand our program work for recreation economy advocacy locally and regionally. The new group will be aligned under the auspices of The Recreation Northwest Industry Alliance. Details about joining the Alliance are forthcoming.
