Sunday Work Party Cancelled – May 18th

May 16, 2014 by Todd Elsworth

UPDATE: Sunday Work Party Cancelled.
Rescheduled for Wednesdays: June 18 & July 16 – 6pm – 8pm

As Stewards of Fairhaven Park, we had a work party planned for Sunday, May 18th. Unfortunately, we are cancelling the event. It is not for lack of interest- the community responded to our first work party and was ready for more. Since the property is a new acquisition to the city, a plan is not in place to maintain or improve the space, yet.

Recreation Northwest has been working with Parks and Recreation staff to determine how best to take care of the trails and surrounding environment. We are actively exploring a phased approach to taking care of some obvious issues associated with access to the forest. There are a lot of elements to consider and we are gathering the data necessary to make the determination as to what level our organization has the capacity to enter into an MOU with the city to be directly involved. We will be sharing our potential scope of our work with the public in the next month.

We have come to an agreement that in the short-term we can get some important work done with the removal of invasive species as a start to maintaining and improving the environmental health of the area.

Rae will be leading Wednesday night work parties on June 18th and July 16th from 6 pm – 8pm. We will be posting details about meeting locations soon. Rae needs to get in to see “What’s UP” so we can focus our efforts. Please stay tuned.

If you planned on coming out to help, Thank YOU. Instead, celebrate Mt. St. Helens Eruption Anniversary.
