As your Voice for Trails, we also put energy into supporting the work of others. We sign on to efforts and actions to support trail development. Two recent letters that we have signed on for are to support efforts of the Bellingham Parks & Recreation and WA State Department of Natural Resources. We thought that it would be “fun” to share this with you. Here’s a summary of their proposed projects to the funders who support these efforts.

We wrote in support of the City of Bellingham’s proposal for the Middle Fork Spring Creek Open Space Trail project for a Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program Trails grant. The project proposes to construct a multi-use trail to improve access to open space and connect Cordata Park to West Stuart Road and Meridian St. The trail will be approximately 1,300 linear feet and consist of 8-foot-wide crushed limestone and 10-foot-wide boardwalk segments. The project will improve level of service in north Bellingham by adding additional trail and lowering barriers by reducing the distance to Cordata Community Park amenities and trails from the Meridian and King Mount neighborhoods to the east.

We also wrote in support of the Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR’s) WWRP Trails project #26-1522, Olsen Creek State Forest: Bridge and Trail Connections to develop a new non-motorized, multi-use trail bridge over Olsen Creek and a high value regional trail route connecting Olsen Creek State Forest to Whatcom County Parks and Recreation-managed lands and beyond. This is an important trail linkage valued by Recreation Northwest Trails Coalition which will help to connect Bellingham to Acme and the South Fork Valley.
