What To Bring

  • Welcome Guests,

Our Mission is to promote outdoor recreation and bring people together to enjoy, preserve, and improve the places where we play. Our core philosophy is Be SAFE, Have FUN, Show RESPECT.

Our experiences are designed to help you feel safe, connect with, and be comfortable in the outdoors. Our Guides are trained and outfitted to support you. We ask that you please come prepared.

As you prepare, keep in mind that we will be outside in the Pacific Northwest’s terrain and weather. The landscape varies from gentle to rugged and, as we know, ultimately the weather will change. We operate in Bellingham Parks, which we consider “close to home” and emergency services.

The following are our guidelines of what to wear & what to pack – outlining our Requirements and Suggestions for your best experience with Recreation Northwest (RN).

  • If you have any questions about your upcoming Recreation Northwest experience please reach out to us:  or (360) 306-3087

What Should I Wear?

Please come dressed for your outdoor experience, ready to roll. You don’t have to buy new gear, come as you are. Use these guidelines to get dressed for our day together.

Footwear: Activity appropriate footwear for walking, hiking, or biking.

Clothing: Seasonally appropriate clothing for your outdoor activity. Consider your base layer, insulating layer, and socks. It’s all about the layers.

Protection: Sunscreen & Sunglasses – Even with the northwest cloud cover, the sun still damages your skin and eyes. Cover up. For those going on adventures and tours, protective eyewear is also helpful to keep the bugs and sticks out of your eyes.

What Should I Pack?

Please pack the following RN Essentials for your experience. We suggest leaving room if you’re planning on peeling off extra layers.

Recreation Northwest Essentials

Hat – brimmed to keep the sun off your head or a warm hat for cooler times of the day

Jacket – Waterproof or Windproof. Even in a light rain- stay dry, stay warm. The breeze also cools you quickly on cool evenings or in the shade.

Water – BYOB. Bring your own Bottle. We have great tap water! If you need a bottle, we can hook you up with hydration at HQ.

Snacks – Your nutrition is a key to happiness. Depending on the duration of your experience, bring enough fuel to keep you going. You know your body and what it needs.
